CHARACTER
NAME: Yusuke Kitagawa
CANON: Persona 5
AGE: 17
CANON POINT: End of game
HISTORY: From the wiki
PERSONALITY:

Kitagawa Yusuke is a young Japanese Artist. At face value, this baseline descriptor says a lot about the Yusuke you see on the surface. He's polite, well-mannered, and reserved about most matters. Composed and elegant in almost all things, Yusuke is the kind of character that exudes a very distinctly traditional air. This also comes out in his art. The poetic way that he sometimes speaks, the serious way he takes his art, and even his eccentric way of always trying to find aesthetic in all things around him connect to how he displays his art to the world. As a man steeped deeply in art ever since he could remember, art is his life. Expressing one's self through artistic means and being true to it and yourself is a concept that is deeply important to him.

Like with all people, there are layers to Yusuke and what's going on with him. Being moved into creating art at a young age drew his loyalty to a particular artist. This connection to Madarame, the artist of his favorite piece and his caretaker, is where many things about Yusuke start. For instance, his tendency to blindly, loyalty follow someone and explain away truths he doesn't want to believe. Despite knowing logically that Madarame was using not only him but everyone else in their lives, Yusuke turned a blind eye since Madarame was everything in the world to him. It's no secret that Yusuke suffered a lot of abuse under the care of Madarame. Despite his caretaker being rich, he made Yusuke live in squalor and create art pieces for him to put his name on and get rich from. Yusuke himself grew up poor, uncredited for works he was forced to make, and having to keep to himself over the entire matter. When Akira forced his eyes open to reality, Yusuke swore to become a better person that didn't just accept these atrocities. This can be seen with how he chastises the team for bad judgment calls that land them in a bad place. It can be argued that Yusuke became to cling to Akira almost in the same way he depended on Madarame (something that is far more apparent in what the December bad end suggests) but given Akira is the main character and a positive influence, it's taken as the better option. After Madarame is out of the picture and Yusuke is on his own, he has a difficult time accepting the reality of the art world, remembering what influences helped distort Madarame in the first place. Over the course of the game, Yusuke learns to not only accept the business side but how to work it and make himself happy at the same time.

On his own, Yusuke is very awkward. He's quietly always existing in his world of aesthetics and seeing everything for what it could be artistical. For many reasons, he's not very well socialized. Having no friends or people he could talk to growing up, he's the type of person to bluntly speak his mind when he does get to speak. This could be anywhere from following someone on public transit like a creepy stalker just to ask them to model for him (and then later ask them to pose naked like it's no big deal) to harshly berating girls for hitting on him and making themselves look bad for doing it. Trust me, if you want to offend someone, sending Yusuke in could be the fastest way to accomplish it. Of course, this all means he can be incredibly rude sometimes without realizing that it's what he's doing. The sheltered way he grew up was not kind. Being an honor student at an art school also has a lot of meaning. Extremely intelligent, poised, and elegant, sometimes he can be a little too poetic and artistic to where no one can understand what he means or what he's doing. His air of the hot, intelligent, awkward artist can only be ruined by the things that come out of his mouth.

As Fox, he is one of the main melee damage dealers on the team. Armed with a Katana, ice magic, and an automatic assault rifle, Yusuke deals high damage and moderate magic damage at fast rates. Despite being a twiggy little thing, he is much stronger than you'd think. He was able to catch a girl in his arms and land on his feet after suddenly falling through a hole. Being swift and strong is not all. That's right, he's still an artist and a dramatic little thing at that. He makes poetic opening speeches, runs, fights, even his stances, and poses are all done in the most dramatic, artistic way he can. Yusuke becomes a performer on the battlefield. The performance is just as important as the battle results. He gets so into it that his faux tail legitimately wags. I don't understand it either.

Back to the real life, there is one other part of him that is important to his character. That happens to be how broke he is. He had no money (or food, or freedom to anything really) before Madarame's incident due to the older man controlling him in all aspects of his life. After Madarame is no longer in his life it's no different. Having to control his own expenses and money shows just how little experience he has with it in how broke he perpetually is. He will spend what money he has on frivolous things that greatly interest him in the moment he has it. Be that a box of expensive sweets to give someone else, or a pair of bright red lobsters that just happen to trigger his aesthetic, Yusuke is notoriously bad with money and making daily adulting choices. This isn't to say he isn't responsible. When it comes to other things, he's very mature and intelligent. That just doesn't extend to money matters and budgeting in the slightest.

All in all, Yusuke is a good guy. Quiet, weird, sometimes insulting, very dramatic, and hard to understand... but a good guy.

POWERS: Yusuke is a persona user. This means that he uses a powerful being called out from the sea of his rebellious soul in order to fight for him. His ability to call on his persona comes from his mask, the fox. Able to call on Kamu Susano-o, Yusuke is a very powerful fighter with his own drawbacks here and there.

Here is the write out of what his attacks look like on paper

Bufudyne - Heavy Ice damage to 1 foe. Rare chance of Freeze. (12 SP)
Mabufudyne - Heavy Ice damage to all foes. Rare chance of Freeze. (22 SP)
Masukukaja - Buff party agility for 3 turns. (24 SP)
Deadly fury - Severe Physical damage to 1 foe. Stronger under Baton Pass. (18% HP)
Myriad slashes - Medium Physical damage to 1 foe 2x to 3x. (20% HP)
Vorpal blade - Severe Physical damage to all foes. (23% HP)
Evade fire - Triple evasion chance against Fire attacks (passive)
High counter - 20% chance of reflecting a physical attack. (passive)

Yusuke's persona's abilities are orientated towards melee and ice damage, and buffs toward his own well being. damage wise, his persona strengthens his sword attacks and gives him the ability to use single enemy or multi-enemy ice attacks as he pleases. Although this does mean that outside of his magic, he does need his signature katana in order to do his usual heavy melee damage. Kamu Susano-o is also built to help Yusuke overcome his weaknesses. When Yusuke devotes his SP (a magical stamina that's exactly like mana) to his persona, he can make himself faster and harder to catch and stop.

Given how dangerous fire is to him and the magical orientation of his persona, he has worked up to having the ability to completely evade the negative effects of fire and fire magic. ( He also halves what damage a wind magic attack would do against a normal person. Cold, ice, and ice damage don't phase him at all.) This doesn't always work, however. It's based on a chance system and his luck is not high. I would say it's a 60/40 chance of Yusuke still getting his tail burnt and being out of commission for a small while. This chance system also works on how his high counter works, except when he uses Kamu Susano-o to buff his speed and evasion, his chances to evade all incoming attacks goes up to 70/30. In addition to avoiding the attack, his high counter rate gives him the opening to attack his enemy back. The buff does wear off and bring him down to his normal rates, and overuse of it will diminish his SP.

Outside of this strange being, Yusuke has other uses. On his team, he’s what we like to refer to as The Glass Canon. With powerful physical attacks and strong magic, Yusuke’s a good addition to any team. Having low luck also meant he's not a critical hitter. It's all raw damage and buffed speed. He's also shown to have a proficiency with automatic guns.

Speed is also the name of the game, with Yusuke. If he can be faster than anyone else, get his hit in, and finish the battle before anyone can hit him, then his job is done. If he does get hit in the process, you can probably count him out of the fight. His lower endurance stat makes it dangerous for him to get hit, and even worse if his evade fire doesn’t save him from a bad burn.

Other lesser powers that are what they are

  • Art abilities like you wouldn’t believe
  • Able to replicate art and produce forgeries, but he doesn’t enjoy the work. He’d only do it for a friend.

    • These forgeries also work on magic items. He’s just that good.

  • Seemingly fake animal attachments can and will act like real animal parts with heightened emotions.
  • Can offend any woman in 10 words or less

MISC
PLANS: Yusuke’s focus will be on the art of any era they come across. Sure, he’s there to help and do what he can, but he’s still an artist and what better way is there to learn and take in art history and classic styles than to live in the eras themselves?
ITEM: Fox Mask since it’s necessary to call his persona.
CHARACTER @ID SUGGESTIONS: I don’t really have any ideas. Probably something artsy or having to do with foxes.
HOW DID YOUR CHARACTER JOIN COST? He was asked. After the events of Persona 5, things calmed down, but he still felt like he should be fighting or doing something. When he was approached to help out with the cause, he agreed.
